Single MVA Results in Fatality
On January 31, 2010 at 5:59pm on Randall Blvd in Golden Gate Estates, a one car motor vehicle accident was dispatched to Big Corkscrew Island Engine 10. A pickup truck had left the roadway and entered a canal. Bystanders stated that the driver was under water for approximately 5-10 minutes before they were able to pull him from the vehicle. When Engine 10 arrived on scene the driver was not conscious and not breathing. CPR was started immediately until Collier County EMS arrived about two minutes later. Collier County EMS started ALS procedures, but the patient’s condition made these efforts difficult. They responded to an area hospital with a fire fighter onboard to assist paramedics. The patient was called deceased by the physician at the hospital. There were no other occupants of the vehicle, and no other injuries.
